Trigger Point Injection Therapy

Trigger point injection therapy utilizes an anesthetic solution that is injected into specific pain points in the muscles targeting them to “release” their adhesion and pain. Typically this therapy has been used to relax and reset tight (hypertonic) muscles that are causing pain conditions and preventing proper function and healing of a muscle.

What to expect?

Trigger point injections are easy to get – they are fairly quick and painless to administer and the pain relief is typically almost instant. Anesthetic using a small needle is inserted into key muscle areas to promote relaxation and pain relief. The anesthetic will cause some minor lack of feeling in the superficial skin but that will typically wear off after about 90 minutes and your muscle pain and tension relief remain. Some mild muscle tenderness can occur for up to 48 hours after the injections but 90% of patients report that it is often more pleasant then the pain they were experiencing.
