Damage to soft tissues such as tendons and ligaments can result in pain and disability. Examples include tennis elbow, rotator cuff injury in the shoulder, sacroiliac joint strain, etc. Many of these injuries due not heal and result in chronic pain. Cortisone injections can provide temporary pain relief but can also result in further damage in the long run. Prolotherapy is a treatment that involves the injection of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) into the damaged tissue to promote healing of these damaged tissues. Platelets are cells in the blood stream that contain a large number of growth factors. When they are injected into the damaged tissue they attract other cells that result in the growth of new blood vessels and the production of proteins (Collagen) that repairs and strengthens the damaged tendon and ligaments.
