The Welcome Back Centre specializes in identifying the source of a person’s pain and providing treatment to eliminate or provide long-term pain relief.
Diagnostic blocks are performed to identify the source of a person’s pain. This involves the injection of local anesthetic to freeze nerves that carry the pain signal in order to determine if a particular structure is the source of the person’s pain. For back or neck pain examples include facet joint blocks, epidural blocks and sacroiliac joint blocks.
Therapeutic injections are performed to provide long-term pain relief, which can last for months, years or sometimes forever. Cortisone injections are used to eliminate pain that is due to inflammation such as facet joint osteoarthritis and disc herniations. Prolotherapy is the injection of blood products (PRP) to stimulate healing of damaged muscles, tendons and ligaments.
Therapeutic procedures provide even more long-term pain relief. Radiofrequency neurotomy also called rhizotomy uses an electric current to cauterize nerves to relieve pain from arthritic joints. Vertebroplasty is the injection of cement into a broken vertebra to make it hard and eliminate pain. Surgery can eliminate pain from disc herniations, spinal stenosis and instability.
This procedure selectively destroys nerves that carry pain signals from irritated joints to provide long-term relief of pain.
Arm and leg pain (Sciatica) is due to nerve root irritation. Injecting local anesthetic can determine which root is the source of the pain.
The goal is to identify the source of back or neck pain by freezing the nerves to particular joints.
